St. Mark’s operates under the Education Act (1968) as a sponsored institution. The key partners are the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Education and the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) through the Diocese of Embu as the Sponsor.
As a sponsored institution, both the Ministry of Education and the Sponsor have specific roles specified in the Education Act. These include consultation in the appointment of the Board of Governors ,the Chairman, Principal and Deputy Principal. The Sponsor has the prerogative to sustain the religious tradition of the St. Mark’s without prejudice to the functions mandated to it by the Ministry of Education.

• To provide high quality training for teachers; and
• To provide continuing education.
